Budapest, Hungary –  Round three of the 2022 – 2023 FIM SuperEnduro season moved to the Danube river city of Budapest, Hungary. FactoryONE Sherco riders Cody Webb and Cooper Abbott had great results with p3 and p4 placements respectively. Cody, Cooper and Technician Cody Richelderfer Having a Pre-race ConversationPhoto courtesy of Future7MediaThe track build for round three seemed well suited for the American pairing of Cody Webb and Cooper Abbott. It had a familiar feel to it, much like the EnduroCross tracks back home. With that, the pair both qualified on the first row during the Superpole qualification.  Cooper Abbott Early in Moto OnePhoto courtesy of Future7MediaMoto one had a group of five bunched up at the first time check. It was Billy Bolt, ahead of countryman Jonny Walker, Cody Webb, Polish rider Dominic Olszowy, and Cooper Abbott. A little further into the moto, Cody Webb had a costly mistake when trying to get around lapped riders that took him from p3 to p6. Cooper Abbott benefitted from this and went from p4 to p3. This is where the pair would finish the moto after Swede Eddie Karlsson had a bad get-off at the finish line double that caused the moto to be called from that point. The points were given based on the riders’ positions on the track at the time.Cody Webb in Moto TwoPhoto courtesy of Future7MediaCody Webb and Dominic Olzsowy were able to get out front early despite both having to start on row two for the reverse grid start for moto two. Not far behind were Bolt, Walker, and Abbott. Bolt would eventually grab the lead towing Cody along with him. Jonny Walker would eventually catch Webb as Bolt was beginning to stretch his lead. Walker and Webb would go back and forth during the moto until a mistake by Walker would allow Webb through. At the very next corner, Bolt would jam his front wheel into the rocks. Webb would capitalize and move into p1. He would hold this position until the penultimate lap when Bolt would come around again. One more mistake from Bolt in the matrix seemed like the opportunity Webb needed to grab the moto win and break Bolt’s streak, but a mistake himself in the same matrix would allow Bolt to finish just ahead at the finish line. Cooper Abbott rode a very clean race finishing p5 for the moto.Cody Webb in the Final MotoPhoto courtesy of Future7MediaThe FactoryONE pair were tied going into the final moto. They were a few points adrift from Jonny Walker for the final podium spot. Cody and Cooper rode a very consistent moto despite battling for that final podium position. Moto three was lacking the dramatics aside from Taddy Blazusiak having to abandon the race only two laps in. Cody would finish p3 with Cooper in p6 when one small mistake cost him a better finish. With the final moto results, Cody would finish p3 overall with Cooper just behind with a p4 finish. Cooper Abbott in the Final MotoPhoto courtesy of Future7Media“My mistake in moto one cost me a better overall position tonight,” Said Cody Webb. “I had the pace and this track really suited me well. I was in a big battle with Billy in moto two and I thought I was going to be able to break his moto win streak. He had a bobble in the matrix and I thought that was my opportunity, but I came up short on one log and had to pull a trials skill to stay on the bike. Overall I am happy on the night but I know I can battle for the win,” concluded Webb.“I am happy with my result from tonight. I am headed in the right direction continually improving my placement,” Said Cooper Abbott. “I loved this track. It seemed to suit Cody and I a bit better. It was like we were back home at an EnduroCross. A few small mistakes cost me in the end as I was up front battling in the top three each moto. I am going to work hard to clean that up to hopefully get my first SuperEnduro Podium. I know I have the pace, I just have to ride clean,” Concluded Abbott. Cody Webb on the PodiumPhoto courtesy of Future7Media
